The glamour and excitement of classic Hollywood comes alive as the season opens on with Symphonic Classics from the Silver Screen. Reminisce with Ravel’s Bolero from the movie Ten and other symphonic hits from sound tracks like 2001: A Space Odyssey, Platoon, and Gone with the Wind.

Violinist Rachel Lee will captivate the audience, adding cinematic suspense and drama to the concert with her performance of Erich Korngold’s Violin Concerto. Noted for her compelling stage presence and a unique ability to “make the music sing,” (The Baltimore Sun) she has made several important orchestral debuts in recent seasons, including performances with the Chicago, Saint Louis, Houston, and Seattle Symphony Orchestras.

Korngold virtually invented the Hollywood film sound with film scores like the Adventures of Robin Hood and Seahawk. The Violin Concerto premiered in 1947 with the most enthusiastic ovation in St. Louis Symphony concert history.
